Release notes for Mac app beta
Sketch 2025.2 (204103) released on June 18, 2025
Documents you open with this update will be incompatible with older Sketch versions. This may affect anyone you collaborate with.
Progressive blurs (but better)
This release brings a completely new approach to blurs in Sketch. There are now two main types of blur; layer (affects the layer itself) and background (affects the contents behind the blur).
Whether you’re using a layer or background blur type, you now have three options to choose from: Uniform (previously Gaussian or Background), Linear Progressive, or Radial Progressive.
If you’re using the progressive blur option, you get two stops by default, but you can add as many as you like (just like gradients). You can also change their position on the canvas.
We’ll be shipping frequent beta updates with new tools to help you create and design for the next generation of Apple platforms.
New Apple UI Libraries
Apple have updated their Sketch Libraries for both macOS 26 and iOS 26. You’ll find them in Settings > Libraries if you want to enable them.
Improvements (6)
- You can now use the eyedropper tool to add or change a page’s canvas color when you haven’t selected anything on the canvas.
- We’ve added a menu item and shortcut ⌘6 to view Graphic Templates in the Components View.
- You can now add search keywords to any component in the Components View. This gives you more control and better results when searching for components.
- We’ve improved Sketch’s performance when you work with background blurs.
- We now install updates for Libraries with a license agreement that hasn’t changed automatically, instead of requiring you to accept the license agreement again.
- Container titles on the canvas now dynamically adjust to contrast with dark or light canvas colors.
Changes (3)
- The Gaussian Blur type is now called “Layer” and has three new options; Uniform Blur (previous Gaussian Blur), Linear Progressive Blur, and Radial Progressive Blur
- The Background Blur type is now simple “Background” and has three new options; Uniform Blur (previously Background Blur), Linear Progressive Blur, and Radial Progressive Blur
- We’ve adjusted the radius value for background blurs to better match current web standards. Existing background blurs have a new radius value but will look the same. — There’s a new app icon for the beta build — our first step into the world of Liquid Glass.
Fixes (7)
- Fixes a bug where the Data button wouldn’t work when you selected an individual text override.
- Fixes a bug where exporting a frame might ignore fills on symbol sources nested inside that frame.
- Fixes a bug that caused nested frames to be reparented unexpectedly within other frames in your selection, as you dragged your selection on the canvas.
- Fixes a bug where a symbol instance that you set as an alpha mask would switch to being an outline mask if you used it as part of another symbol.
- Fixes a bug where editing layers inside a frame that uses Zoom blur could leave artifacts on the canvas.
- Fixes a bug where, in some cases, a shadow on a group wouldn’t appear if the group only contained a blurred layer.
- Fixes a bug where you couldn’t copy and paste a blur style.
