Over a million people use Sketch to transform their ideas into incredible products. Would you like to join us and help take this leading design platform to the next level? We’re looking to expand our Marketing team with a full-time Lead Web Developer.

As our Lead Web Developer, you’ll be responsible for the overall quality and output of our development work for sketch.com — making sure it works great, feels consistent and always provides the best experience for users. In this role, you’ll work closely with our web designers, our Digital Project Manager, and the wider marketing team. You’ll also be responsible for managing the three developers who currently work on the website.

On a typical day, you could be:

  • Working with the web designers and Digital Project Manager to set your team’s roadmap on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis
  • Hosting retros on processes and projects to help everyone continually learn and improve what we do
  • Creating the right conditions for the dev team to solve engineering challenges
  • Collaborating with our Lead Web Designer to define new processes that improve developer handoff
  • Taking the lead on UX improvements and new project proposals
  • Reviewing code from other team members and leading the website QA process
  • Working and collaborating with the product teams to bring new features and updates to life on the website
  • Helping to improve our website’s codebase, platform and tooling
  • Rolling up your sleeves and getting hands-on to help other members of the team with everything from large scale projects to bug fixes
  • Offering leadership, mentoring and management to the other developers in your team — looking after their needs and motivations

  • Our team works remotely and communicates mostly in writing, so you will need to have an excellent grasp of written English, great communication skills and be comfortable working in a remote position.

Essentials

  • 5+ years in a web development role
  • 2+ years in a management-level position, leading a dev team
  • Proficiency in both frontend and backend development
  • Excellent knowledge of web fundamentals: HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript
  • Experience with modern development tooling (Git/GitHub, npm, ES6, etc.)
  • A commitment to best practices such as progressive enhancement, accessibility, and performance
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Experience of using Sketch
  • You’re able to work full-time and are based in European / African timezones.

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge and experience with the JAMStack architecture
  • Working knowledge/experience of headless CMS's
  • A passion and knowledge of UX principles and practices
  • Experience working with metrics and analytics (e.g Google Analytics)
  • Ability to work in an agile environment
