An annotated image showing the color panel controls and options
  1. The eyedropper Eyedropper tool lets you pick any color from your display, inside or outside of the Mac app. You can quickly access it by pressing C.
  2. Add Color Variable allows you to save a new Color Variable.
  3. Color model switcher toggles between HSB (hue, saturation, brightness) and HSL (hue, saturation, lightness).
  4. Fill types: Switch between solid, gradient, image fills and Color Variables.
  5. The color picker uses the HSB (hue, saturation, brightness) color model. Drag the point left to right to change a color’s saturation, and up or down to change its brightness.
  6. The sliders control your color’s hue (color) and alpha (opacity).
  7. The text fields give you quick access to your color’s HEX value for copying and pasting, and the option to manually set a specific color using RGB (red, green, blue) and alpha values.
  8. Blending mode defines how your color will interact with other colors beneath it.
